Lanzarote – Costa Teguise 2026 Triathlon World Cup: everything ready for the major international event
The island of Lanzarote once again takes center stage in international triathlon. This Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Lanzarote – Costa Teguise 2026 Triathlon World Cup will take place in Costa Teguise, one of the first major competitions of the global calendar organized under the official World Triathlon circuit.
With less than a day to go before the start, the island is already buzzing with competition atmosphere. More than one hundred elite triathletes from over 30 countries will compete for the first international ranking points of the season in a race that combines swimming, cycling, and running in one of the most spectacular triathlon settings in Europe.
A fast and spectacular course in Costa Teguise
The epicenter of the event will be the area around Las Cucharas Beach, one of the most iconic locations in Costa Teguise. From there, the competition will begin in Sprint format, designed to be fast, technical, and extremely exciting for both athletes and spectators.
The race is divided into three segments:
Swimming – 750 meters
The race begins with an open water swim in front of Las Cucharas Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters and ideal conditions for this type of competition.
Cycling – 20.7 kilometers
After the first transition, triathletes will face a cycling circuit that combines coastal areas and urban sections of Costa Teguise. Lanzarote’s characteristic wind and volcanic terrain make this segment particularly demanding.
Running – 5 kilometers
The competition finishes with a 5 km run to the finish line in the center of Costa Teguise, where the podium is often decided in the final meters.
The biggest names in world triathlon
The World Cup will bring together some of the best triathletes on the international circuit.
In the women’s race, one of the standout athletes will be Georgia Taylor-Brown from Great Britain, world champion and Olympic medalist, one of the main favorites to take the victory. She will compete alongside other top athletes such as Laura Lindemann, Nina Eim, Ilaria Zane, and Sandra Dodet.
In the men’s category, one of the most prominent names will be Dorian Coninx of France, world champion, who will lead a highly competitive field of podium contenders.
Spain will also have strong representation, with several athletes from the well-known “Triarmada.” Among them are David Cantero, Pelayo González, Eloy Canales, Genis Grau, Vicente Hernández, Antonio Serrat, and Kevin Tarek Viñuela. In the women’s race, Spanish triathletes such as Miriam Casillas, Marta Pintanel, and Marina Muñoz will also compete.

Lanzarote, one of the best places in the world to train for triathlon
Hosting an event of this level in Lanzarote is no coincidence. The island is considered by many professional athletes to be one of the best places in the world to train for triathlon.
The first factor is its climate. Lanzarote enjoys mild temperatures throughout the year, very little rainfall, and ideal conditions for outdoor training almost every day.
The second key element is the terrain. The island’s cycling routes cross unique volcanic landscapes, with long climbs, open roads, and constant wind, allowing athletes to improve endurance and strength. For running, there are coastal routes and perfectly maintained roads, while the ocean offers real open water swimming conditions.
Additionally, places like Costa Teguise offer high-level sports infrastructure, including quality roads, safe swimming areas, gyms, and accommodations specialized in sports tourism.
The island also has a long tradition of organizing international competitions, such as the famous Ironman Lanzarote, considered one of the most demanding triathlons in the world.
All of this has turned Lanzarote into a true training hub for professional triathletes, who travel to the island every year to prepare for their seasons.
An ideal destination for triathletes and cyclists
The growth of triathlon in Lanzarote has also boosted specialized services for athletes visiting the island. Many triathletes who come to compete or train need high-performance bikes and specific equipment during their stay.
For this reason, specialized companies such as Papagayo Bike offer high-end bicycle rentals adapted for triathlon and road cycling training, allowing athletes to make the most of the island’s routes.
Lanzarote takes center stage in world triathlon once again
With international athletes, a spectacular race circuit, and an island fully prepared for endurance sports, the Lanzarote – Costa Teguise 2026 Triathlon World Cup promises to be one of the major events at the start of the season.
Everything is ready for Lanzarote to once again demonstrate this Saturday why it is one of the most important triathlon destinations in the world.
