Since a few years, bicycle touring has been settling in, in much of Europe. Discovering new places pedaling, has become one of the healthiest ways to travel. However, it is true that in order to enjoy such a trip, a series of requirements must be accomplished: to have a decent physical form, that you like to ride a bicycle, that the place you are going to visit has orographic features and an expanse that allows you to travel it by bicycle, and finally, that there are bicycle rental centers such as Papagayo Bike.

Today we are going to talk about some routes to do with our rental bicycles, with mountain bikes (MTB). The Cabildo de Lanzarote has marked a network of mountain bike routes on the island with a total of nine routes: one lap circling the island and another one on La Graciosa.

1. Arrecife Route

• The first route takes place in Arrecife, starting at El Cable.
• It has a total length of 17.70 km.
• This route is classified as “easy difficulty”.
• 20% of the route is by road and 80% off road.
 

2. Haría Route

• This route runs through the municipality of northern Lanzarote: Haría, passing through places like Máguez, Guinate, the Corona Volcano, Tabayesco, the Mala dam or the Rincon de la Paja.
• It has a total length of 21 km.
• This route is classified as “high difficulty”.
• Only 5% of the 21 km route goes by road and is one of the most difficult routes.
 

3. San Bartolomé Route

• The route of the municipality of San Bartolomé leaves Playa Honda and passes through Güime, Casa Mayor Guerra, El Islote and Montaña Blanca.
• It has a total length of 29 km.
• This route is classified as “easy difficulty”.
• 5% of the route goes by road and the rest off road.
 

4. Teguise Route

• The Teguise Route departs from Las Caletas and goes to Los Ancones.
• It has a total length of 37 km.
• This route is classified as “high difficulty”.
• 95% of the route is off road.
 

5. Tías Route

• The route of Tías starts and ends in Puerto del Carmen, since it is one of the main tourist centers of the Island. It crosses areas such as La Geria, Mácher or Montaña Blanca.
• It has a total length of 25 km.
• This route is classified as “medium-high difficulty”.
• 90% of the route is off road.
 

6. Tinajo Route

• Goes over El Cuchillo, Los Dolores, the Tinguatón Volcano, the Camino de las Malvas and even reaches till Timanfaya.
• It has a total length of 29 km.
• This route is classified as “easy difficulty”.
• 75% of the route is off road.
 

7. Yaiza Route

• The route through Yaiza can be done at any time of the year, except for days with strong wind.
• It has a total length of 30 km.
• This route is classified as “high difficulty”.
• 95% of the route is off road.
 

8. La Graciosa Route

• This route is done on the eighth island "La Graciosa".
• It has a total length of 19.5 km.
• This route is classified as "low difficulty".
• 100% of the route is off road.
 

9. Island Tour Route

Approximately 210 km to enjoy with one of our MTB rental bicycles. You can divide this route through Lanzarote into several sections:

Arrecife-Arrieta: Mountain type, mixed: 10% asphalt and 90% off road. Distance of 29.5 km. Difficulty: Easy
Arrieta-Ye: Mountain type, mixed: 75% asphalt and 25% off road. Distance of 27.57 km. Difficulty: Very difficult.
Ye-Caleta de Famara: Mountain type, mixed: 15% asphalt, 85% off road. Distance of 41.5 km. Difficulty: difficult
Caleta de Famara-Yaiza: Mountain Type, mixed: 25% asphalt, 75% off road. Distance of 39.4 km. Difficulty: difficult
Yaiza-Playa Quemada: Mountain type, mixed: 15% asphalt, 85% off road. Distance of 46 km. Difficulty: difficult
Playa Quemada-Arrecife: Mountain type, mixed: 85% asphalt and 15% off road. Distance of 25.6 km. Difficulty: Easy
